The objective of the orientation event for the BBA-Business Analytics batch (2024-2027) was to introduce students to the fundamentals of business analytics, provide hands-on experience with industry tools like Cognos Analytics, and offer insights into how data-driven decision-making impacts various industries. The event also aimed to connect students with alumni and industry experts to offer practical career advice and inspiration, while fostering a sense of community as they begin their academic journey.
On Friday, 20th September 2024, UG Management Department Campus II successfully organised an orientation program for the newly inducted BBA-Business Analytics batch (2024-2027). The event was conducted in partnership with the IBM Business Analytics Lab, underscoring the institution’s commitment to blending academic learning with industry-relevant skills. The program aimed to provide the new students with an overview of business analytics, hands-on exposure to analytics tools, and invaluable insights into industry trends, while fostering connections with alumni and industry experts.
The event began with a comprehensive workshop on Cognos Analytics, led by Mr. Aman Bakshi, an IBM Subject Matter Expert. This session aimed to familiarise students with one of the leading business intelligence platforms, providing them with practical insights into data preparation, exploration, and reporting. Mr. Bakshi demonstrated how Cognos Analytics can be used to create visualizations and automate reports, essential skills for data-driven decision-making in business. The workshop was interactive, with Mr. Bakshi addressing various student queries and elaborating on real-world applications of analytics in business contexts. At the end of the session, in a gesture of gratitude, Mrs. Neetu Kamra presented Mr. Bakshi with a potted planter, symbolizing the institution's appreciation for his contributions and the importance of nurturing partnerships.
Following the workshop, Dr. Mohanty delivered an insightful lecture on the Role of Analytics in Business Today. He explained how modern businesses rely on analytics for optimizing operations, driving innovation, and maintaining competitiveness. By using examples from industries like finance, healthcare, and e-commerce, Dr. Mohanty illustrated how analytics transforms business operations. He also introduced students to advanced concepts such as predictive analytics and AI-based analytics, stressing the importance of both technical and critical thinking skills in making informed business decisions.
The event concluded with an interactive alumni session, where students had the opportunity to engage with successful alumni. Ms. Safal Malik from HCL Technologies, Mr. Aman Karan from Celebal Technologies, and Ms. Tisha from Fluper Ltd shared their professional journeys and how their time at Lloyd Business School prepared them for their careers in business analytics. Each alumni member emphasized the importance of continuous learning and adapting to evolving industry demands. This session gave students valuable insights into real-world applications of business analytics and the opportunities that lie ahead in their professional journeys.
